this is CBS and now here's your host welcome back episode 9 we're just gonna pick up right where I left off doing another doubleheader back-to-back today just because I have the time snowed it completely snowed in so I'm not gonna do my usual outings which I do on Saturday I'm just going to stay home crank out a couple of these vatican - so it's hope you're enjoying it so the apostle has sounded the warning let those who make use of this world not get bogged down in it for the structure of this world is passing away sage advice it seems like we've completed the first of the 16 documents and we'll be passing on now I'm talking about the dogmatic Constitution on the church the eschatological nature of the token Church in our union with a heavenly church what is this religious okay maybe we are within the so no I stand corrected we're still at my notes I wish I had a better system in here with the next passage the final age of the world has already come upon us the renovation of the world has been irrevocably decreed and in this age is already anticipated in some real way for even now on this earth the church is marked with a genuine though imperfect holiness as I talked about last time in my last episode the per the holiness it's a holiness which is partial it's a Martin not not marred by sin but it's accompanied by saying I guess it's that image of the weeds among the wheat we've signed up those of us who are striving to be faithful Catholics we've signed up to get onto the earth outside of which there's no possibility of salvation we've signed up and it's only in this life or in the next life in purgatory that we're going to be purified completely so that we can stand before or even now in this earth the church is marked by genuine though imperfect holiness however until there is a new heaven and a new earth where justice dwells the pilgrim church in her sacraments and institutions which pertain to this present time takes on the appearance of this passing world she herself dwells among creatures who groan and try by in pain until now and wait the revelation sons of God joined with Christ in the church and signed with the Holy Spirit who is the pledge of our inheritance we are truly called the sons of God and as such we are but we have not yet appeared with Christ in the state of glory in which we shall be like to God since we shall see him as he is therefore while we are in the body we are exiled from the Lord and having the firstfruits of the Spirit we groan within ourselves and desire to be with Christ a common love urges us to live more for him who died for us and rose again we strive therefore to please the Lord in all things we put on the armor of God that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil and resist on the evil day especially at the hour of death since we know not the day nor the hour on our Lord's advice we must constantly stand guard thus when we have finished the one and only course of our earthly life we may merit to enter into the marriage feast with him and to be numbered among the blesses thus we may not be commanded to some of my friends I don't know if I should name names here but some seem to think that level is not eternal sort of a conditional immortality which means total annihilation for the reprobate I completely disagree and so does this infallible teaching of thus we may not be commanded to go into eternal fire like the lik like the wicked and slothful servant into the exterior darkness where there will be the weeping and gnashing of teeth or before we rain with the glorious Christ all of us will be made manifest before the tribunal of Christ so that each one may receive what he has one with the body according to his works whether good or evil at the end of the world they who have done good shall come forth in unto resurrection of life but who have done evil unto resurrection of judgment we reckon therefore that the sufferings of the very first ages of the Christian religion has cultivated with great piety in the memory of the dead because it is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead that they may be loosed from sins that reference to second Maccabees is a proof text against those who deny prayer for the dead in purgatory is also offered prayers for them I pray every day - and for the holy souls in purgatory who them and for them they need my prayers and I need their prayers and I petrol man being said every day till the end of time I have a mass being said for the holy souls in purgatory every day think about that meditate on that chew on that perpetual mass for the holy souls in unbelievable the infinite graces of the Holy Sacrifice of the mass being applied to the holy souls in purgatory each and every day in my name because I made that tiny it's ridiculous the ease with which we I don't know I express it in words the mind-boggling generosity of God whereby I can enroll perpetual Mass it costs me basically and the infinite merits of the master being applied everyday to all of the holy souls in purgatory I don't know how to express my thanks to God for the Holy Roman Catholic Church or sacraments offering petrol masses for the Holy Orders that marry out most often it's Holy Orders that carry out these masses and that maintain these lists of names names of those who are to benefit potentially on the graces that they're receiving by these masses that are being said every day potentially because the graces can be refused not by those in purgatory they will not refuse them but those on earth if you by a quote unquote by or arranged a perpetual Mass for a loved one here God willing they will cooperate with those infinite races but they may not they're free to neglect them more than likely they are neglecting them I I'm being bombarded and swamped and flooded with infinite Grace's every day because of all the perpetual masses that I've enrolled people in myself included neglecting the graces because otherwise I would be perfected by now all the graces and being flooded with but it's a work in progress I'm aware of the graces I'm aware of the indulgence is I'm aware of the gratitude that I need to cultivate and the faith that I need to build and protect grow I'm aware of all this it's a its baby steps towards becoming a saint to being purified here below and I have time how much time do I have I might have a five decades I don't know god only knows but we should appreciate the opportunity we have to enroll people in perpetual masses especially the holy souls in purgatory the church has always believed that the Apostles and Christ's martyrs who had given the supreme witness of faith in the charity and charity by shedding of the blood are quite closely joined with us in Christ she has always venerated them with special devotion together with the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Angels the church too has devote ly implored the aid of their intercession to these were soon added those who had imitated Christ's virginity and poverty more exactly the religious and finally others whom the outstanding practice of the Christian virtues and the divine charisms recommended the pious devotion and imitation of the faithful I think these are called confessors and I think that's the technical word for those people for when we look at the lives of those who have faithfully followed Christ we are inspired with a new reason for seeking the city which is to come at the same time we are shown a most safe path by which among the vicissitudes of this world and in keeping with the state of with a state in life and condition proper to each of us we will be able to arrive at perfect union with Christ that is holiness in the lives of those who shared in our humanity and yet were transformed into especially successful images of Christ but vividly manifests to men his presence and his face he speaks to us in them and gives us a sign of his kingdom to which we are powerfully drawn surrounded as we are by so many witnesses and having such an argument for the truth of the gospel I know I'm always harping on about the Saints and the power of their powerful example and their inspiration but it's true in vatican ii is emphasizing that as well i here now it is not only by the title of example that we cherish the memory of those in heaven we do so still more in order that the union of the whole church may be strengthened in the spirit by the practice of fraternal fraternal charity or just as christian communion among Wayfarers brings us closer to christ so our companionship with the saints joins us to Christ from whom as from their foundation and head issue every and the life of God's people itself so I'm talking we're talking here about the church triumphant and how we are connected to the church triumphant we are one body I'm constantly reminding my listeners that the church militant has signed up the church suffering is being purified and the church triumphant has arrived but it's one Church so we need to bear this in mind we don't just look at the example of the Saints we are connected in a real mystical way to the Saints we're one body very important to bear that in mind it is supremely fitting therefore that we love those friends and fellow heirs of Jesus Christ who are also our brothers and extraordinary benefactors that we render due thanks to God for them and supply supply Utley invoke them and have recourse to their prayers their power and help in obtaining benefits from God through His Son Jesus Christ our Lord who is our sole Redeemer and Savior or by its very nature every genuine testimony of love which we show with all those in heaven toward hen's toward and terminates in Christ who is the crown of All Saints through him it tends toward and terminates in God who is wonderful in his Saints and magnified I was a when I converted to God in 2009 I was a generic monotheistic and easily that the Catholic Church is not replacing God the Father with God the Son God the Holy Spirit and the Blessed Virgin Mary and st. Joseph st. John the not a replacement I understood intuitively that the god man Jesus Christ is pointing about the Father the Holy Spirit is humbly pointing to about the father everything points to God the Father that's why as a generic monotheists rabidly jealous for the sovereignty I had no problem submitting to the Holy Roman Catholic Church because I understood it was very clear to me from teachings like this teaching here that I just read front a character of God to the sovereignty of God that everything points to God there's there's a it's it's sad to me that the non Catholic Christians don't see how beautiful and powerful this economy of salvation is that God himself has established on earth for us finite creatures so that we can be gods so we can be her takers of the divine life that we can enjoy the Sabbath of God and enter into the rest of God and to participate in the very life of the to explain that how does a Muslim explain that how does it Jew explain that only the Catholic Church has a full economy of salvation with the Saints in that bridge between the infinite and the finite and it's a beautiful colorful bridge and it does not in any way take away from the sovereignty of God it's all manifest proof that the infinite did um and join us he did incarnate God incarnated and he is the way he's the way to eternal life that the life of God there's only one life it's the life of God so I feel like people are selling themselves short by remaining outside of the Holy Roman Catholic Church because we have so much richness so much beauty so much complexity such ease of access so many saints we can emulate so many saints we can be devoted to a devotion just means love I love all the saints but not equally because I have a certain chemistry with with each and every creature I have a different chemistry with each saint I'm drawn to certain saints there's a reason why I'm drawn certain saints and I'm not as strongly drawn to others I'm never repulsed by a saint never but I'm more strongly drawn to some than to others and two to deny that fact innit ood I'm finite I'm limited I'm flawed also and my wounds need to be healed by Christ and he is giving me the Saints I need he's giving me the priests I need and the bishops I need and Pope that I need and it's the same thing with you you have a unique chemistry with the Saints and with the hierarchy of the church and even with your family and friends and God is dynamically optimizing everything absolutely everything is dynamically optimized for your greatest happiness eternal lasting happiness with him in heaven line bubbling so looking at the complexity of the communion of saints and this church militant here below the church suffering in purgatory and the church triumphant in heaven if we look at this great magic great majestic tableau of the economy of salvation it's much more it's it's more intuitive to understand that there's a customized menu for me for my salvation what's going to appeal to me what's going to speak to me what's going to resonate with me what's going to help me in the to be holy to be sanctified and to our union with the church in heaven is put into effect in its noblest manner when the common rejoicing we celebrate together with mm-hmm when with common rejoicing we celebrate together the praise of the divine majesty then all of those from every tribe and tongue and people and nation who have been redeemed by the blood of Christ and gathered together into one church with one song of praise magnify the one and triune God such is especially the case in the Sacred Liturgy where the power of the Holy Spirit acts upon us new sacramental signs celebrating the Eucharistic sacrifice therefore we are most closely united the worshiping church in heaven as we join with and venerate to the memory first of all of the glorious ever Virgin Mary a blessed Joseph and the Blessed apostles and martyrs and of all of the saints this most sacred Synod accepts with great devotion the venerable faith of our ancestors regarding this vital fellowship with our brethren who are in heavenly glory or who are still being purified after death in purgatory it proposes again the degrees of the Second Council of Nicaea the Council of Florence the Council of Trent so for those who think that we're dealing with rupture in Vatican two and same time it is part of its own pastoral solicitude this Synod urges all concerned to work hard to prevent or correct any abuses excesses or defects which may have crept in here and there and to restore all things to a more ample praise of Christ and of God we can see here another little technical glitch with the automatic character recognition machine machine reading of the paper text into electronic form the word Christ was rendered Chris but we can forgive this and overlook this just due to the sort of mass market production of books these days a lot of books just being scanned character recognition is not 100 percent but this talk of defects that have crept in here and there in the church mm-hmm it's important to understand the limits of infallibility and to understand that as the Second Vatican Council would want to say at some point in essentials unity in non-essentials a healthy and natural diversity but in all things charity so here we have a little mention that there are some things that have crept in that are abuses excesses defects that have crept in here and there and we need to restore all things to a more ample praise of Christ and of God by purifying the church as always the church is always undergoing a purification and Vatican two council is no different so continuing let the faith will be taught therefore that the authentic cult that is worship of the Saints consists not so much in the multiplying of external acts but rather in the intensity of our active love by such love for our own greater good and that of the church we seek from the Saints example in their way of life fellowship in their communion and aid by their intercession at the same time let the people be instructed that our communion with those in heaven provided that is understood in the more adequate light of faith in no way weakens but conversely more thoroughly enriches the supreme worship we give to God the Father through Christ in the spirit this is exactly what I've been saying our worship and I want to touch on this word worship or Cultus cult we do worship Mary we do worship the Saints but we do not adore them as God because they're not God as simple as that this is a common misconception a lot of people today a lot of Catholics today like to say I don't worship we don't worship Mary we don't worship the Saints but it's not true we do worship them it just means that we see the worth we see their worth the worth ship they're worthy of our attention and our love and we can follow their example but we do not adore them with let Rhea which is a technical term for the adoration that's due to God long but we do worship Mary in the Saints we just don't adore them for as long as all of us who are sons of God and comprise one family in Christ remain in communion with one another in mutual charity and in one praise of the Most Holy Trinity we are responding to the deepest vocation of the church and partaking a foretaste in a foretaste of the liturgy of consummate glory for when Christ shall appear and the glorious resurrection of the Dead takes place the splendor of God will brighten the heavenly City and the lamb will be the lamp thereof then in the supreme happiness of charity the whole church of the Saints will adore God and the Lamb who was slain proclaiming with one voice to him who sits upon the throne and to the lamb blessing and honor and glory I have left here let's see if I can continue with the next this looks like a long one but I'll see if I can get Virgin Mary and the church therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked by the church under the titles of advocate Rosalie Atrix a do tricks and mediatrix these however are to be so understood that they neither take away from NORAD anything to the dignity and efficacy of Christ the one mediator for no creature could ever be classed with the Incarnate Word and Redeemer and Mary's creature but just as a priesthood of Christ is shared in various ways both by sacred ministers and by the faithful and as the one goodness of God is in reality communicated diversely to his creatures so also the unique mediation of the Redeemer does not exclude but rather gives rise among creatures to a manifold cooperation which is but a sharing in this unique source the church does not hesitate to profess this subordinate role of Mary she experiences it continuously and commends it to the hearts of the faithful so that encouraged by this maternal help they may more closely adhere to the mediator and Redeemer Jesus Christ through the gift and role of divine maternity Mary is united with her son the Redeemer and with his singular Grace's and offices by these the Blessed Virgin is also intimately United with the church as st. Ambrose taught the mother of God is a model of the church in a matter of faith charity and perfect union with Christ for it in the mystery of the church herself rightly called mother in Virgin the Blessed Virgin stands out in eminent and singular fashion as exemplar of both virginity and motherhood or believing and obeying mother brought forth on earth the father son this she did knowing not man but over showered by the was the new Eve who put her absolute trust not in the ancient serpent but in God's messenger the son whom she brought forth is he whom God placed as the firstborn among many brethren namely the faithful in their birth and development she cooperates with the maternal love the church moreover contemplating Mary's mysterious sanctity imitating her charity and faithfully fulfilling the Father's will becomes herself a mother by accepting God's Word in faith or by her preaching and by baptism she the church brings forth a new and immortal life children who are conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of God Church herself is a virgin who keeps whole and pure the fidelity she has pledged to her spouse imitating the mother of her Lord and by the power of the Holy Spirit she preserves with virginal virginal purity and integral faith affirm hope and a sincere charity in the Most Holy Virgin the church has already reached that perfection whereby she exists without spot or wrinkle so the holiness of the church is Mary it's seen in Mary yet the followers of Christ still strive to increase in holiness by conquering sin and so they raised their eyes to Mary who shines forth to the whole community of the elect as a model of the virtues devotedly meditating on her and contemplating her in the light of the word man the word madman the church with reverence enters more intimately into the supreme mystery of the Incarnation and becomes ever increasingly like her spouse or Mary prefigured profoundly in the history of salvation and in a certain way unites and mirrors within herself the central truths of the faith hence when she is being preached and venerated she summons the faithful to her son and his sacrifice and to love for the father seeking after the glory of Christ the church becomes more like her exalted model and continually progresses in faith hope and charity searching out and doing the will of God in all things hence the church in her apostolic work also rightly looks to her who brought forth Christ conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin so that through the church but through the church Christ may be born and grow in the hearts of the faithful also the Virgin Mary in her own life lived an example of that maternal love by which all should be fittingly animated who cooperated in the apostolic mission of the church on behalf of the rebirth of men excellent stuff thanks for being with me we'll talk soon god bless for as little as $1 per month you can support a terrible mission of CBS which has already enrolled hundreds of guests and patrons and their immediate families in the Scalabrine League of divisionary fathers of st.
